Evergreen Line’s Safety, Quality & Environmental Management System

Evergreen Line does business as  a corporate member of society and has established a Safety, Quality & Environmental Management System for its cargo ships and shore-based staff.

Through management reviews, Evergreen Line evaluates the adequacy, effectiveness, and suitability of its management system, including stated policies and associated objectives, to ensure that the targets are met. Evergreen Line commits to the following:

  • Providing for safe practices in ship operation and a safe working environment.
  • Assessing all identified risks to ships, staff and the environment, and establishing appropriate safeguards.
  • Improving safety management skills of staff ashore and aboard ships continuously, including preparing for emergencies related both to safety and environmental protection.
  • Complying with applicable national and international safety and pollution prevention laws and regulations regarding air, water and environment in general, and any other requirements to which Evergreen Line complies.

Educating staff and onboard crews in environmental issues and matters

Preventing marine accidents is a very basic measure to protect the environment. Training and education are key to implement environmental thinking in all safety procedures. Evergreen Seafarer Training Center educates staff and onboard crews, upgrading their professional capability to ensure the safety of the crew, the ships and the customers’ cargo. Through organised courses and practical exercises, Evergreen Line reinforces the professional expertise of its onboard crews and prevents marine pollution and marine accidents. The training takes place onboard the ships regularly and involves a range of subjects such as emergencies, fire and safety drills and the latest regulations and environmental practices.

All new employees are required to take a training course in marine environment awareness. It includes learning about the environmental policy, global requirements and compliance to the US VGP, oil transfer procedures, pollution prevention and safe bunkering, garbage handling and disposal, biofouling management, instructions to BMP, the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan and maintenance and operation record methods including ballast water treatment systems.
